Penelope Oates success within the competitive Australian Art Prize scene is outstanding! Throughout the Art Prize Season of 2000 – 2024 she has been recognised as a finalist 22 times and has earnt herself a place as one of Australia’s most successful prize entrants. According to art-prizes.com Penelope Oates is second on the list of Australia’s Top Finalists since 2020. This position is tied with another KAB Gallery artist, Sally West. Both are jointly the second most successful artists over the last 5 years! As finalists in 22 art prizes each, the position is runner up only to Lori Pensini – a finalist in 28 art prizes.
Penelope Oates thrives on creating detailed works and there is a section of her studio where she positions some of the special pieces earmarked especially for prize season. She follows the entry process and selects works carefully to meet the brief and criteria with determination but it is her exceptional talent and passion distinguish her from her creative peers.
